Meet Jared, our Saskatchewan rising star - and - the Advisor to the ISA Saskatchewan Polytechnic Student Section, which we, the ISA Calgary Section, have taken under our wing. Wait... we're just getting started, Mr. Mathieson has an impressive - AND INTERESTING - biography!
Not your typical cowboy - he fancies flat brims over Stetsons - and is an aspiring hat maker. A humble award winner, he recently received the Platinum Jubilee Medal, but is more proud that two of "his" charities have won the Moose Jaw Group of the Year award.
Here's more on how he makes this world a better place...
Can you tell us about your ISA involvement?
My first exposure to the ISA was as a student in 2002, it was a lot of fun! I have been the official Student Section Advisor for the ISA Saskatchewan Polytechnic Student Section since 2018 (when we became an official group again), and unofficially since 2014.
Twice a year I help the students organize Industry Night, where we bring in Instrument Technologists to share their career journey. Additionally, once a year I help plan the ISA SPSS Golf Tournament.
Can you expand on your other (plentiful) volunteerism?
I sit on the board of directors for the Moose Jaw Transition House. For the last two years I organized “Men’s Night Out… In the Cold” in support of the November 25th White Ribbon Day (the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equity, healthy relationships and a new vision of masculinity). To date, over $80,000 has been raised for the Transition House who won the 2021 Moose Jaw Group of the Year award in 2021.
I also sit on the River Street Promotions' Board. River Street Promotions connects audiences with inspired entertainers while raising funds to promote youth mental wellness in southern Saskatchewan. In the last two years we held two outdoor festivals, and one indoor concert to raise over $150,000 for local school boards to put towards mental health initiatives. River Street Promotions won the Moose Jaw Group of the Year award in 2022.
